The Baltimore Police Department is America's seventh largest police agency dedicated to serving the residents, business owners and visitors of Baltimore, Maryland
The department was officially established by the Maryland Legislature on March 16, 1853. It is organized into nine districts and is responsible for policing 78.3 square miles of land and 7.7 square miles (20 km2) of waterways.
