Austin Partners in Education (APIE) delivers innovative reading and math programs that raise student academic performance. By recruiting, training and deploying a diverse cadre of hundreds of volunteers serving as Classroom Coaches (tutor- mentors) in small group (1 – 3 students per adult) tutoring sessions, students receive the individualized support that can help them achieve and build future success. APIE programs serve students and teachers in elementary reading (Spanish and English), middle school reading and math, and college readiness. In addition, struggling middle school learners are supported through APIE’s Step-Up program, a data-driven, high-frequency tutoring model.
Volunteers are trained and provided weekly support by dedicated program coordinators. Using interactive learning tools and differentiated instruction, adults show they care about the students’ personal and academic success. Classes meet weekly on more than 20 Title 1 school campuses in the Austin ISD school district. Volunteers can choose their preferred time and location by making selections at www.austinpartners.org/volunteer.
Austin Partners in Education works with more than 275 city and state agencies, businesses and organizations each year to support more than 3,500 students. APIE was founded more than 20 years ago by the Austin ISD and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and is a 501 (c ) 3 non-profit.
