A Better Way (ABW) was founded in 1996 primarily as a Foster Family Program. In order to provide comprehensive services to our children and families, Adoption and Mental Health Services were added a few years later. During the past 15 years ABW has provided foster care services to more than 2,000 children and has finalized 300 adoptions. We are the only organization in Alameda County (AC) and SF County with expertise in assessing and serving children 0-5 in the pre- or post-adoption and reunification services. ABW has provided Mental Health services to close to 2,000 children in these counties. All services focus on helping families achieve permanency for their children, either through reunification, adoption, or stabilization of their current placement. Our Mission is to empower children and families to develop the insights, life skills, and permanent relationships that promote their social, emotional, educational and economic well-being.
