Regulus Therapeutics Inc. is leading the development of microRNA therapeutics. microRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that regulate the expression of gene targets involved in nearly all cellular processes. Dysregulated microRNA expression has been linked to a variety of diseases. Regulus has developed effective strategies to modulate microRNAs representing a new class of high-impact medicines to treat complex diseases.
Regulus is advancing microRNA therapeutics across several areas, with a particular focus on fibrosis, hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, immuno-inflammatory diseases, metabolic diseases, and oncology.
Regulus was formed in September 2007 by Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ALNY) and Isis Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ISIS). We benefit substantially from their collective therapeutic RNA expertise, established proprietary oligonucleotide-based technologies, and broad and dominant intellectual property estate specific to chemically modified oligonucleotides. In the field of microRNA therapeutics, Regulus exclusively controls over 100 patents andpatent applications directed to microRNA specific technologies, including microRNA target sequences, therapeutic uses, drug products, drug designs, and analytical methods. Additionally, Regulus has exclusive rights to over 900 patents and patent applications pertaining to oligonucleotide modifications, conjugates, and design patterns, all for use in targeting microRNA for therapeutic applications.
