Parco Tecnologico Padano (PTP) plays a pivotal role within the Center of Excellence for the Agro-Food Biotechnologies supported in Lodi by Lombardy Region, Local Institutions and the University of Milan and acts as Cluster management organization of the new “Research Driven Cluster” located in Lodi. PTP mission is to build a commercially-oriented research network that (i) deals with regional needs, (ii) performs highly effective research to support regional development and (iii) the creation of start-ups and spin-offs by offering know-how, incubator facilities and services.
The setting-up of the Cluster results from 3 “programming agreements” (1998, 2001, 2007) between Lombardy Region, Province, City and Chamber of Commerce of Lodi, and University of Milan for the creation of a ”University and Research Pole” in the Agro-biotech sector involving public and private research organizations with RTD activities to the benefit of industries, especially agro-food industries and cattle-breeders.
PTP is also managing a bio-incubator and a science park, research laboratories (animal and plant biotechnologies) and a Genomics Platform; The Genomics Platform represents the Business Unit devoted to develop and offer services in the area of molecular diagnostics to food industries in Italy. The Genomics Platform is ISO9001 certified, SINAL17025 accredited for DNA-based diagnostic analyses applied to agricultural and food sectors.
PTP is located in the area between Milan and Bologna, one of the most important and dynamic areas in Europe for the agro-food industries and cattle breeding with a lot of SMEs as well as large-scale businesses:
Since the creation, PTP has rapidly grown into a reference point inside Lombardy territory for agro-food and agro-biotech sectors. It is now undergoing a development phase, and it is deputed to become a lead actor of the forthcoming Technological Agro-food District of Lombardy Region.
