Founded in 1987 as Kirshenbaum & Bond Advertising, Inc., the agency quickly developed a reputation for creativity, irreverence and brashness. The founders, Richard Kirshenbaum and Jonathan Bond, were twenty-six and twenty-nine respectively when the agency was founded. Kirshenbaum, a copywriter, and Bond, an account executive, made their first splash with a Kenneth Cole shoes ad spoofing the footwear collection of deposed Philippines first lady, Imelda Marcos. A few months later they cemented their reputation as the “enfants terrible” of advertising with an ad featuring Donna Rice, the alleged mistress of Democratic presidential aspirant Gary Hart, for No Excuses jeans. The ad’s punchline, delivered by Rice: “I make no excuses. I only wear them.” Outrageousness served the agency well, as it picked up more mainstream clients like Esquire, Fox Broadcasting, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Thom McAn shoes. An even bigger breakthrough came in 1993 with the acquisition of the Snapple Beverage Corporation account, which made a celebrity out of Wendy Kaufman, aka the “Snapple Lady.” In 1997, kbp gave birth to the infamous “Bull’s Eye” campaign for Target.
Known since 2003 as kirshenbaum bond + partners, the company today comprises not just the advertising agency, but also Lime (public relations + promotion), The Media Kitchen (media), Dotglu (interactive, direct and crm) and Open Mind (brand strategy).
In 2009 Lori Senecal joined our ranks as our CEO... thus we became Kirshenbaum Bond Seneca + Parters aka KBS+P.
