For almost thirty years, the SME Education Foundation has been the leading non-profit dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education. Since our beginning in 1980, we have pioneered initiatives and invested over $29 million in programs, scholarships, and awards to ensure the quality and quantity of manufacturing's future workforce.
The SME Education Foundation (SME-EF) is a 501(c)(3) and a (509)(a)(1) public charity with a current endowment of $18 million. SME-EF is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and is governed by its own independent Board of Directors which includes senior executives from industry and academia.
The mission of the SME Education Foundation is to:
•Inspire American youth to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) – essential skills needed to compete in the present and future manufacturing workforce – and provide equal opportunity to all.
•Support young learners by providing relevant and rigorous educational opportunities along with financial support to assist them in reaching their goals.
•Prepare the next generation manufacturing workforce with project based curricula and activities that excite and engage them in cutting edge ways.
