Emerge Community Development (or Emerge) formerly known as New Unity, Inc. was established as a 501c3 nonprofit and affiliate of Pillsbury United Communities in 1995 as an innovative approach to job creation strategies that focused on creating employment opportunities for hard to employ adults.
In 2005, New Unity, Inc. was re-branded and re-named Emerge Community Development - in response to a need to consolidate a rapidly growing portfolio of specialized programs and activities under one organizational entity. With a mission of investing in people through social enterprise, Emerge employees serve approximately 4,600 persons annually via 18 asset-building programs/enterprises addressing the workforce development, social enterprise, supportive housing, and community development needs of low-income inner-city Minneapolis/St. Paul residents.
