St. Clare's Hospice first opened its doors to patients in 1987. Our purpose built Hospice on Primrose Terrace in Jarrow was opened in 1994 where we are still based today.
At St. Clare's Hospice, we care for the whole person, aiming to meet all needs, physical, emotional, social and spiritual for anyone facing terminal illness and for those who love them.
In-patient Care at St. Clare's Hospice is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in our 8 bed unit. Seven beds are dedicated to treatment and end of life care with the remaning bed kept for emergency respite care.
Day Care is for patients with life limiting illnesses, enabling them to continue living at home for as long as possible. We have facilities for up to 20 patients to visit each day where they can socialise with others in a similar situation and recieve treatment for their symptoms. In many cases attendance at Day Care can help avoid Hospital or Hospice admission.
Corporate support is very much valued by St. Clare's and we are constantly building new relationships with companies across South Tyneside and Gateshead. We have a range of opportunities for businesses including Corporate Membership which costs just over £20 a month as well as enabling businesses to engage their staff in fundraising for us.
We rely on the generosity of businesses and the local community South of Tyne to help us continue providing care to its residents. Our annual running costs are just under £2 million for 2011 /12
