The Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth was formed in 1982 when the western half of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas was split off. In 1983 the new diocese was named "The Diocese of Fort Worth." The Rt. Rev. Donald Davies was the first bishop, followed by Clarence Pope and Jack Iker. In November 2008, Bishop Iker and other diocesan leaders left The Episcopal Church. The diocese reorganized in February 2009 and the Rt. Rev. Edwin F. Gulick Jr. was elected provisional bishop. He was succeeded by the Rt. Rev. C. Wallis Ohl in November 2009. The diocese covers 24 counties in North Texas. The Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth's mission is that of The Episcopal Church -- to reconcile the world to God through Jesus Christ. All are welcome in this place.
