SADD is the nation's leading peer-to-peer prevention, education, and activism organization, with nearly 10,000 chapters in schools and communities across the United States. Founded as Students Against Driving Drunk in 1981 in Wayland, Massachusetts, the organization changed its acronym to stand for "Students Against Destructive Decisions" in 1997, to reflect a broadened focus on underage drinking and other drug use; traffic safety, including reckless, impaired, and distracted teen driving; teen violence and suicide prevention; and more.
Today, SADD students work to educate their peers and communities about these issues, work to prevent them from occurring, and advocate for legislation and other action to address them further. SADD chapters have more than 350,000 students actively involved, and their reach is considerable - more than 7 million peers. There are also millions of SADD alumni now in the corporate world.
