Wink Communications, Inc. provides an end-to-end system for low-cost electronic commerce on television. It offers an enhanced television broadcasting system, the Wink Service, which allows advertisers, merchants, and broadcast and cable networks to create interactive enhancements to traditional television advertisements and programs. With a click of their remote control during an enhanced program or advertisement, viewers can purchase merchandise or request product samples, coupons or catalogues. The company collects the responses for purchases and information requests, aggregates them, and forwards them to the appropriate advertiser, merchandiser, or programmer. Similarly, viewers can use Wink to access program-related information such as news, sports, and weather; and participate in votes and polls. In January, Esther Koch became interim chief financial officer, replacing Jonathan Spatz, who left the company.
