SourceForge, Inc. owns and operates a network of media Web sites, which serve IT management and IT professional, software development, and open source communities in the United States. It operates in two segments, Online Media and E-commerce. The Online Media segment consists of a network of Internet Web sites, which include SourceForge.net, which provides open source project hosting and hosted downloads of open source code and applications; Slashdot.org that offers IT and business communities with an interactive platform to publish and comment on technology, hardware, software, games, and online rights news; Linux.com, which provides Linux and open source news and information services; Freshmeat.net that offers indices of downloadable Linux, Unix, and cross-platform software; ITManagersJournal.com, which delivers strategic and technical information; and NewsForge.com, which offers online newspaper of record for Linux and open source software and business issues. The E-commerce segment provides online sales of a range of retail products of interest to the software development and IT communities and other consumers through its ThinkGeek.com portal. The company was founded in 1993 as VA Linux Systems, Inc. and changed its name to VA Software Corporation in 2001. Further, it changed its name to SourceForge, Inc. in May 2007. SourceForge is headquartered in Mountain View, California.
