University of Phoenix Online offers online college education with complete degree programs via the Internet. It provides University of Phoenix’ educational programs worldwide. The company offers 18 accredited degree programs in business, criminal justice, education, health care, human services, information technology, management, and nursing. Its courses and programs are available through the Internet and can be accessed using basic technology, such as a Pentium-class personal computer, a 56.6K modem, and an Internet service provider. Every online class consists of a series of eight newsgroups. The main newsgroup is designated for class discussion, an assignments newsgroup to which students submit their assignments; a chat newsgroup for students to discuss non-content related topics; a course materials newsgroup that houses the syllabus and lectures for the class; and four newsgroups, which function as forums for the Learning Team assignments. As of August 31, 2003, it had approximately 79,400 degree-seeking students and approximately 6,600 faculty members. The company has students located in approximately 91 countries. University of Phoenix Online was founded in 1976.
