The National Gallery houses the nation's collection of Western European painting from the 13th century to 1900. Almost all of the collection is on display, 360 days a year, free of charge to the 5 million or so visitors who visit the Gallery each year from all over the world. The Gallery also provides a wide variety of associated services and events including exhibitions, lectures, guided tours, information and services for schools.
The Gallery's aim is to care for, enhance and study its collection, so as to be able to encourage access to the pictures for the education and enjoyment of the widest possible public now and in the future. It aims for the highest international standards in all its activities.
