History
In September 1996, Telenet was incorporated to deliver telephony and internet services in Flanders.
In July 1997, Telenet completed the construction of its fiber backbone in Flanders. In August 1997 we began to offer residential internet services, followed by residential telephony services in January 1998.

In August 2002, Telenet acquired the cable television business and network of the MICs (a group of utility companies that are owned by both municipalities and Electrabel, the former operator of the MICs cable system).

ACQUISITIONS
In December 2003, Telenet acquired Codenet NV, a provider of broadband internet, data and voice services to business customers. This acquisition provides Telenet with access to a network throughout Belgium and Luxembourg and enables Telenet to provide its business customers a comprehensive range of products and services.

In December 2003, Telenet acquired certain assets of the Canal+ group through its newly created subsidiary PayTVCo NV. The acquired assets provide analog and digital premium programming directly to cable television subscribers on Telenet's network and on the network over which Telenet has long term usage rights. Through this acquisition, Telenet is able to offer all cable customers in Flanders a range of sport, movie and other specialist content, in addition to the basic analog offering. This service of Telenet is now offered under the name PRIME .

In October 2003 Telenet has purchased substantially all of the assets and liabilities of Sinfilo related to installed and operational WiFi hotspots throughout Belgium.
