Telecom Italia Lab is out of business. It is a venture capital firm specializing in the provision of corporate venture capital to small to medium sized companies operating within the ICT (Information and Communication Technology sector), with focus on mobile Internet applications, Internet security, consumer security, personal communications systems (i.e., videoconferencing, unified messaging, and related systems), enabling technology (i.e., e-commerce platforms, advanced search engines, CTI – computer telephony, and virtual community platforms). Investments are made in companies based in Italy, Israel, Europe or the US and that are developing a new product, service or technology. Telecom Italia Lab provides incubation services through its incubator, Dream Bay, seed/start-up and early venture financing, and growth capital in exchange for a minority equity stake and a seat on the board. Investments in the United States are carried out through the US office based in San Francisco, which is also establishing a network of international investment and technological partners. In addition, Telecom Italia Lab also makes co-investments with Fintech, an Italian venture capital firm jointly owned by Telecom Italia and Mediocredito Centrale. Telecom Italia Lab offers financial and strategic advice, as well as assistance in business development and finding technology partners to its investees. Telecom Italia Lab established the IDI (Interaction Design Institute) to offer advanced education in ICT management skills to the Telecom Italia group, the business unit partners and its investees. The business unit is also heavily involved in to research and development programs through CSELT (Centro Studi e Laboratori Telecomunicazioni), which carries out studies experimentation in telecommunications and technologies products and services. Telecom Italia Lab’s investees have access to CSELT to enhance their product and services. The firm’s strategy is to acquire interest in companies that offer products and services having synergies with Telecom Italia Group’s core business. In addition, Telecom Italia Lab invests in venture capital funds. Telecom Italia Lab is based in Turin, Italy.
