Tampere University of Technology (TUT) conducts scientific research in technology and architecture and provides the highest education within these fields. The University operates in close collaboration with business life and other facets of society and produces high-standard services within its range of tasks. TUT is Finland’s most international university when evaluated according to the number of visiting researchers.

The University educates Masters of Science in Technology and Architecture whose diverse expertise is sought in working life. Almost all MSc graduates are employed at the time of graduation. There are 12,400 students at TUT, 10,500 of whom are taking an undergraduate degree and 1,900 a postgraduate degree.

TUT has persistently developed its research activities and postgraduate education. There were 1,900 postgraduate students at the University in 2006. TUT coordinates seven national graduate schools. The University also has its own graduate school. The number of Finnish and international publications has risen significantly since the turn of the millennium, from 1,200 in 2000 to over 2,000 in 2006.

TUT’s total expenditure in 2006 was approximately 113 million euros. Close to half of the University’s funding was external funding, such as revenue from Tekes, industry, the Academy of Finland and EU projects.

260 TUT students studied abroad in 2006. Almost 800 international students studied at TUT and 270 non-nationals were employed as researchers. TUT has over 250 cooperation universities.
