The Mission of the U.S. Corporate Banking Group is to become a top tier provider of selected financial services to the large U.S. corporate clients it targets to serve, achieve meaningful profitability and contribute to the recognition of SMBC in the global marketplace. Particular focus is placed on the United States, Japan, and Asia. This goal requires a highly focused approach in terms of the market segments and clients it serves, and on product capabilities offered throughout the SMBC Global Network. Through a combination of careful client selection, achieving a deep understanding of client needs, and properly matching service products as well as balance sheet capacity, relationship managers seek to add significant value to their clients.

The group is comprised of: three Relationship Banking Departments, a Product Development Department and a Credit and Administration Department. Relationship Banking is organized primarily on a geographic basis. Clients are served out of SMBC's Head Office in New York as well as from an office in Los Angeles. There are also teams established on certain industry-specific bases to best serve related clients. These industries are: Energy, Media and Telecom, and Financial Institutions. There is also a team that manages a portfolio of non-relationship, return-driven assets.
