Southern California Edison Company (SCE) supplies electric energy in central, coastal, and southern California. Its transmission facilities, which deliver power from generating sources to the distribution network, consists of approximately 7,200 circuit miles of 33 (kilo Volt) kV, 55 kV, 66 kV, 115 kV, and 161 kV lines; 3,500 circuit miles of 220 kV lines; 1,238 circuit miles of 500 kV lines; and 858 substations. SCE’s distribution system includes approximately 60,000 circuit miles of overhead lines; 39,000 circuit miles of underground lines; 588 distribution substations; 704,000 transformers; and 790,000 area and streetlights. The company owns an undivided 78.21% interest in San Onofre Units 2 and 3, which are pressurized water nuclear units located on the California coastline with a generating capacity of 1,690 megawatt (MW); 36 hydroelectric plants located in California’s Sierra Nevada, San Bernardino, and San Gabriel mountain ranges with a generating capacity of 1,179 MW; and a diesel-fueled generating plant located on Santa Catalina island off the southern California coast. In addition, SCE owns a natural gas-fueled 2 unit power plant in Redlands, California with a generating capacity of 1,050 MW. As of December 31, 2006, SCE served approximately 13 million commercial, residential, industrial, and agricultural customers.
