The company was founded in 1987 as Columbia Pictures Entertainment, Inc. and changed its name to Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc. in 1997. Sony Pictures is headquartered in Culver City, California, with additional offices in France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Miami, the People's Republic of China, Russia, Spain, and the United Kingdom. As of November 1989, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc. is a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America.
