Sol Melia, S.A., together with its subsidiaries, engages in the management and operation of a chain of hotels, resorts, and clubs in Spain, rest of Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Caribbean. The company operates three star, four star, five star, and five star deluxe hotels under the Melia Hotels & Resorts, TRYP Hotels, Sol Hotels, Paradisus Resorts, and Sol Melia Vacation Club brands. As of December 31, 2005, Sol Melia, S.A. operated 328 hotels with 81,282 rooms. The company was founded in 1956. It was formerly known as Investman, S.A. and changed its name to Sol Melia, S.A. in 1996. Sol Melia is headquartered in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
