Novis is a Portuguese fixed-line telephony company that forms part of Sonae.com. The firm provides the implementation of Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL), which offer wide band access to the Internet. The company has strategic partnerships with French company France Telecom (FT), which has a wide experience and know-how in the telecommunications market, with 200,000 DSL clients. Novis also has a partnership with Sonae which also disposes of alot of experience in the Portuguese telephony market. In February 2001, Novis together with another seven telecoms operators agreed to split the cost of constructing a new joint infrastructure network for installing fibre optic cables which will in turn, compete directly with Porugal Telecom's own network.
