The company operates department stores, variety stores, and specialty stores under Brico, de Bijenkorf, Claudia Sträter, Dixons, Dynabyte, Formido, HEMA, Hunkemöller, and Praxis store names. The company was founded in 1887 as Vroom & Dreesmann. The name changed to Vroom & Dreesmann Group in 1973. In 1985 the company changed its name to Vendex International N.V. In 1999 the company merged with Koninklijke Bijenkorf Beheer (KBB) and was called Vendex KBB N.V. The name further changed to Maxeda B.V. in 2006. Maxeda B.V. is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
