The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church or Mormon Church) is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Church maintains major religious, family, education, genealogy, welfare and humanitarian, missionary, temple and other programs and activities throughout the world.
As of December 2008 the Church had over 13.5 million members, with approximately 28,100 congregations in over 160 nations and territories. There are 348 missions with 52,000 missionaries. The Church has 128 operating temples and nearly 5,000 family history centers. The Church operates four universities and colleges and a worldwide seminary and institute program, with over 700,000 students. Humanitarian aid continues to be a major initiative with over one billion dollars of cash and materials in 2008.
Church holdings include Brigham Young University, Deseret Management Corporation, AgReserve, Farm Land Reserve, Intellectual Reserve, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Polynesian Cultural Center (Hawaii), Deseret Trust Company, etc.
