Kyocera Corporation, through its subsidiaries, develops, produces, and distributes telecommunications equipment, electronic components, solar energy systems, and industrial ceramics worldwide. It operates in seven segments: Fine Ceramic Parts, Semiconductor Parts, Applied Ceramic Products, Electronic Device, Telecommunications Equipment, Information Equipment, and Optical Equipment. Fine Ceramic Parts segment offers information and telecommunication components, sapphire substrates, semiconductor process equipment components, components for LCD manufacturing equipment, automotive and ITS related components, and industrial ceramic components. Semiconductor Parts segment provides surface mount device ceramic packages, CCD/CMOS sensor ceramic packages, LSI ceramic packages, wireless and optical communication device packages, and organic multilayer packages/substrates. Applied Ceramic Products segment offers residential and industrial solar power generating systems, solar cells/modules, cutting tools, printed circuit board micro drills, jewelry and applied ceramic related products, dental implants, and artificial bone and joint prosthesis. Electronic Device segment provides ceramic and tantalum capacitors, RF modules, surface acoustic wave filters, connectors, thermal and LED printheads, LCD, amorphous silicon photoreceptor drums, and timing devices. Telecommunications Equipment segment offers CDMA mobile phone handsets and PHS related products. Information Equipment segment provides ECOSYS printers, copying machines, and multifunctional systems. Optical Equipment segment offers optical modules and lenses. The company also provides telecommunications network systems, chemical materials for electronic components, and hotel, insurance, and travel agency services. Kyocera was founded in 1959. It was formerly known as Kyoto Ceramic Kabushiki Kaisha and changed its name to Kyocera Corporation in 1982. Kyocera is headquartered in Kyoto, Japan.
