Institute of Geomatics

The Institute of Geomatics (Institut de Geomàtica - IG) is a autonomous public research center situated in Castelldefels (Barcelona, Spain). The consortium is made up of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and the Technical University of Catalonia.

The Institute's mission is the promotion and development of Geomatics, through applied research and teaching, to the benefit of society.

We take Geomatics to mean the disciplinary set of sciences and technologies that deal with the study, acquisition, storage, organization, analysis, dissemination, management and use of geographically-referenced spatial information. Geomatic disciplines include, among others, cartography, photogrammetry, remote sensing, geodesy, topography, geographic information systems, civil engineering and geomatic engineering.
