Among some of the fields the company has compiled and accredited records from are sports, entertainment, human achievements, living world, science/technology and society and global events. The company was founded in 1955 and has sold more than 80 million copies in 77 different countries and 38 different languages as well launched television shows and websites. Guinness World Records is a subsidiary of HIT Entertainment PLC. Guinness World Records was a prior subsidiary of Gullane Entertainment, which was acquired by HIT Entertainment in September 2002. As of February 15, 2008, Guinness World Records operates as a subsidiary of Jim Pattison Industries Ltd.
