About Gore Mutual

Our Story:

On April 30, 1837, a meeting was held in Plumber Burley's Hotel (now the Promenade House) in Hamilton Ontario. An Act was passed in 1836, in the Province of Upper Canada in the sixth year of the reign of King William IV, authorizing the establishment of mutual insurance companies and the freeholders of the District of Gore were anxious to form a company. Unfortunately, William Lyon MacKenzie, head of the Reform Party at that time, called for a rebellion and the plans for the company were delayed. It was not the time to begin a new company. With the economy finally stabilizing, the Gore District Mutual Fire Insurance Company was formed on June 18, 1839, at the Brantford School House, 28 years before Canadian Confederation.

For almost two centuries Gore Mutual has remained an outstanding pillar in the insurance industry. Our commitment to service excellence has been recognized by independent broker associations.
