Equity Office Properties Trust, a real estate investment trust (REIT), engages in the ownership, management, development, and operation of office properties in the United States. As of December 31, 2005, it had a national office portfolio consisted of interests in 622 office buildings comprised approximately 111.5 million square feet. The company has elected to be taxed as a REIT under sections 856 through 860 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. As a REIT, it would not be subject to federal income tax purposes, provided that it distributes at least 90% of its REIT taxable income to its shareholders. Equity Office Properties Trust was founded in 1996 and is based in Chicago, Illinois. As of February 9, 2007 Equity Office Properties Trust was taken private.
