Current Company Logo

Berlingske Tidende owes its existence to Ernst Henrich Berling who, as a 23-year old printer, arrived in Copenhagen from Hamburg in 1731. Only two years later, following his marriage to his master’s daughter, Berling opened his own company, employing just one journeyman.

These were the modest beginnings. Sixteen years later Berling began publication of the newspaper that we know today as Berlingske Tidende. The first issue appeared on 3 January 1749 – the day that the publishing house has celebrated as its official birthday ever since.

Berlingske Tidende provide Danes with knowledge and entertainment where and when they want it. Our aim is to become Denmark’s most diverse, widespread and profitable news provider.

Fast, unbiased and comprehensive information forms the starting point for all the group’s publications and news services, exactly as was described in the Editor’s Statement of 5 November 1948.

Berlingske Tidende's editorial audience is readers who live East of the Great Belt with a higher education. It is aimed at both men and women in the mature and resourceful segment.

Berlingske Tidende is a part of the Berlingske Media group (formerly Det Berlingske Officin).

The Chief Editor is Lisbeth Knudsen.
