This segment provides local news through cable news channels in partnership with Cox Communications and other parties in Phoenix, Arizona; and Hampton/Norfolk, Virginia. As of December 31, 2007, the company owned 20 television stations, managed 1 television station through a local marketing agreement, and owned 2 local and 2 regional cable news channels, as well as holds ownership interests in 2 other cable news operations. The Newspaper Group segment publishes and markets daily newspapers, including The Dallas Morning News, The Providence Journal, and The Press-Enterprise. This segment also operated approximately 30 news paper and information Web sites, as well as a range of Internet-based products. It provides advertising space in published issues of its newspapers and on the Web sites, as well as operates commercial printing business.
