Aerospatiale-Matra S.A. is the parent company of a group of companies in the aerospace industry. The group is organized into two core businesses, Aircraft and Space & Defense. The Eurocopter Group designs and manufactures a range of civil and military helicopters. This range has features including the Fenestron shrouded tail rotor, extensive use of composites, integrated avionics, and fly-by-wire controls. Production plants are in La Courneuve and Marignane in France, Ottobrun (Munich) and Donauworth in Germany, and Grand Prairie, Texas in the U.S. The company's Strategic Missile and Launch Vehicle Division is systems integrator and architect for the principal stages of Ariane 4 and 5, and is responsible for the design and production of these stages. It is also prime contractor for space vehicles, such as the Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), the cargo vessel for the international space station, and the Atmospheric Reentry Demonstrator.
