On January 1996 AEIOU.pt web search engine was born and its history is linked to the development of portuguese internet.

Launched to carry out the purpose of cataloging all portuguese websites soon became widely known due to its real-time database and its fast and efficient search engine with a simple and intuitive navigational interface, all managed and built by the portuguese internet user community.

Throughout the years new contents and services were added providing users with information, leisure, entertainment and useful tools to their online activities.

By the end of 2006 one of portuguese biggest media group acquired AEIOU, which became a part of Impresa Digital. Amongst the services, contents and utilities from AEIOU portal we find sites such as a free webmail (Xekmail.pt), a webchat (Bla.pt), a blog community (weblog.com.pt), cooking (Kitchenet.pt), soccer (relvado.com) and news (quiosque.aeiou.pt). This sites are complemented with others from Impresa Digital like MyGames.pt (games), Olhares.com (photography), Escape.pt (tourism and leisure), Chilltime.com (social networking) and Dirnet.pt (business directories).

During 2007 and 2008 AEIOU.pt launched several enhancements providing more content and more services heading further on Web 2.0 data integration by giving users the possibility to personalize their user experience in the Portal.
