Anyone using ECM Documentum for Web Content Management (WCM) - or plan to?

My company has decided on ECM Documentum as (part of) the platform for our next generation online presence.

Anyone here who currently use - or plan to use - ECM Documentum for Web Content Management (internet, extranet and/or intranet) purposes in their company?

Would you be up for sharing thoughts and ideas on issues such as choice of platform / tools, implementation tips and Documentum WCM best practices in general?

Let's talk! Post an answer here or choose a back-channel if you prefer to stay "under the radar".

I have worked on several Documentum web/portal projects. Each was different in terms of sophistication of the web content solution and complexity of the environment and purpose.

It can be a rather wide topic, depending on what you are using it for. Documentum has very deep capabilities in this area. I would assume you are using some combination of WebPublisher and Site Delivery Services although I don't know your application.

You can email me at mike.clarke@qtility.com with more details if you like. I'd be happy to talk about your online presence ideas.

i have worked on DTCM products right frm EDMS 98 to 5i for over 6 yrs now. I am not trying to be fussy here but you will need to find some things out before going ahead (that is if you have not bought DCTM yet)

does your company already own other Documentum products?
what is the domain that you company is into?
How many intranet/extranet sites does you company intend to churn out?

often companies take decisions based on what recommendations they get from other companies with similar nature, but fail to leverage the complete capabilities of the tool, as is the case with many companies using DOcumentum, this usually has a heavy toll as they not only pay for the expensive licensing they are now left with a "elephant" to feed with for the maintenance, upgrades and consultancy services.

Sharepoint on other hand is an emerging player that is comming up with a lot of features for companies to quickly take their products online, though it does not come with a host of (integratable) plugins as Documentum does with input accel, BPM, fusion, e-room etc ... it is decent for what it does and is quick to learn and deploy. Since this is Microsoft, it will be readily compatible with your MS infrastructure in place

Mads,

The company I work for has recently obtained Designed for EMC certification for its Translation Management System that is integrated into Documentum products, especially for web content management type projects. We also have integrations with a number of other content management systems.

I'll send you my contact details and we can discuss.

Jeff

I've used Documentum's WCM products on several implementations, though not on the latest D6 or D6.5 platform (though I've used Documentum there). The platform as a whole works well on Solaris or Windows, though AIX was challenging.

Site Caching Services (SCS) works very well. Site Delivery Services (SDS) was poorly documented and challenging to get up and running, though that was 2 versions ago.

The Web Publisher tool worked well. The key was to fully understand and document your process before implementing it in the system. Things were fairly straightforward from there.

The new D6.5 platform has some interesting features around pulling comments from the website back into the system for review. I'm not sure how that works when push comes to shove, but it looks promising.

Good luck.

I have not personally used Documentum, but I have researched it heavily. The #1 thing I keep coming across is that you will have to have a dedicated systems integrator on your team.
