How do I turn off LinkedIn Network Updates?
I have clicked the "email settings" link 3 times, and checked 6 times that every option is turned off. I'm still getting these Network Updates. I think this is already illegal, as I have explicitly denied permission for LinkedIn to be emailing me.
If I can't turn it off, I will delete my LinkedIn account - this is ridiculous. No other company I have ever dealt with has abused my email inbox in such a way.

Consider adding an email handling rule for incoming mail from LinkedIn Network Updates.
In the email product you use, add a mail handling rule which will take messages received from address <updates@linkedin.com> and delete them or place them in a specific email folder for later review. This is the From Address on all emails received with the subject 'LinkedIn Network Updates, XX/XX/XX' (where XX is the date).
POSSIBLE EXPLANATION
LinkedIn is the group each of us becomes connected to once we establish/open an account on the LinkedIn website, and until we close our account, LinkedIn can send emails to all open account email addresses.
Changing the settings on a LinkedIn Profile does not impact LinkedIn sent emails, which do not arrive in the a member's LinkedIn Profile Inbox. Only the emails and updates sent by the connections and group networks a LinkedIn member is following are impacted by changing the LinkedIn Profile settings.
Hi Jeffrey
Have you checked all the fields Under Email PreferencesIs >>Set the frequency of emails>>Network Activity?
I can't see how to turn them off either.
These are not necessary emails about account administration, they are spam about who's friends with who and what they've done.
It's not down to us to filter them out; LinkedIn need to have an option to stop them.

Jeff,
Click on your name at the top of the page and select settings from the drop down. Then scroll down and select email preferences from the left panel and to the right of that you will see two columns. Where your email preferences and notifications can be turned off.
You must also turn off notifications for each group your belong to individually and this can be done by changing the groups, companies and applications button which is directly beneath the email preferences under settings as well.

Click on settings (profile page, under your name in the upper right corner), choose LinkedIn announcements and make the changes you want to.
Solution? There is none. You can't turn them off since it's a "known issue".
Instead try these alternatives:
Report the email as spam if you can. Eg. If you use Gmail, or Yahoo! click on the Spam button.
Email LinkedIn customer support to complain: cs@linkedin.com
Create an email filter to automatically send emails from LinkedIn into your Trash
Delete your LinkedIn account
Here's what I wrote to LinkedIn customer support on Aug 17, 2011:
I still get irregular "LinkedIn Network Updates" spam emails despite turning off all the email settings in my account.
I think it's just a ploy of LinkedIn's to get people to use it.
Here is the reply I received 3 days ago:
Hi Julian,
Thanks for contacting LinkedIn Customer Service. I truly apologize for the delay in my response.
Yes, in fact, you've encountered a known issue. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. Our engineering team is working on it but there’s no estimate as to how long that might take. We’ll do our best to keep you posted.
In the meantime, I’ll gladly help if you have any other questions.

Julian Yap response is correct. Four months has past and LinkedIn has shown no progress at all to fix this "known issue". With enough millions of dollars raised from the stocks you'd figure they could have assembled some superteam of engineers to fix this problem. Truth is, this isn't a difficult technical issue at all. If they really cared, it would have been fixed. LinkedIn thinks these weekly annoyances will help them gain recurring users. Personally I have had enough of LinkedIn because of their arrogant behaviour. Introducting "features" like Using My Name and Photo in Social Advertising and weekly spam.
