I'd argue that it's not promiscuity simply based on the connotations of the word.

What I'm finding interesting from some of the answers is that the connection from first level to second level seems low if you didn't include power-networkers in your direct connections, or use those as "super nodes" for linking. Seems as if when those folks are in your first level connections, you compound the end number of connections much more.
