What extraordinary results have you achieved with LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is a powerful business tool for business networking. I know that I personally have used it to reinforce relationships, expand my professional network and make connections with people across the continent for the purposes of expanding my business. LinkedIn can help you find a job, get a well-connected employee, establish b2b connections or perhaps even pull together a team to build an entirely new organization either for profit or community service.

While it seems the possibilities for advancement using LinkedIn might be endless, I can't believe I am doing a good job of imagining all that people have achieved using LinkedIn. It seems that it would be better for all to simply ask the question here:

What you have done with LinkedIn that others might find inspiring or even surprising?

I've gotten in touch with friends and colleagues I haven't seen in years. One might think in the Internet age this is not 'extraordinary,' but it is surprising to me how hard it can be to find folks, even with all of the Internet tools I have at my disposal. Also, in my first round of invites, I found 5 leads for help I need with a business project. People I can trust, or at least people who are trusted by people I trust. That IS extraordinary.

I've used it to get introduced or recommended to people that I do not know, but my network "knew" them.

2 examples: I've had a phone conversation with a VP level contact at Adaptec and I've gotten connected via email with a VP level contact at AT&T.

I helped convince one gentleman that going back and completing his college degree would be worth it in an industry where his experience without a degree was paying more than equal employees with degrees.

I can draw a direct set of links between my current situation and Linked In - without it, I would not likely be here. The details are immaterial - suffice it to say, it is the best personal/professional marketing tool on the planet.

Linkedin is unlike any other business networking site. However, the site is just to get you started. How much of you you invest in building a strong network is up to you. There are no limits to the possibilities except those you place as limits.

I spend a lot of time with Linkedin and feel that it is a useful tool, but I can't say I have gotten any extraordinary results from it, yet. I think I'm still a novice at getting the full benefit from Linkedin.
