What is your impression of people pushing all their Twitter updates to Linkedin?

Is your Twitter and Linkedin connected together? It could be hurting your business.
Here is a video I made about my views and want others honest views. I view linkedin updates as a honest status update about what you are doing in business. The "you can push all your tweets over" seems to have changed that. My video:

Clarification added April 14, 2010:

Since I started this questions I have written this blog post about it inspired by many of the replies:

http://bit.ly/twitter2linkedin

Clarification added April 27, 2010:

I just made a video to show how to hide someone that is just pushing all their Tweets to Linkedin, that you don't want to see. You can "un-hide" them in the future:

http://bit.ly/stopthetweets

Tks for all the responses. I see great value and use the selective Tweet feature ( #in) where you choose to post to Linkedin items that you think are of value to your trusted business connections.

Clarification added May 11, 2010:

I also created a Poll about this that may be of interest and give a different perspective:

Big thanks to Chris Brogan for speaking out on this issue:" Diluting LinkedIn with Twitter" . I 1st brought it to his attention and he looked into it himself, than wrote a blog about it. This is his blog post on the topic and is worth reading:

Can't say I'm a fan. I come to LinkeIn for meaningful professional networking. Twitter may have some value but it's 99.999% dross, if I want to read tweets I'll go and look, don't want them pushed at me.

If it was just status updates then we wouldn't be able to tell the difference. However when they start RTing and using the @otherguy thing it is like we all have to read conversations that they are having with other people.

I'm not sure why some folks forward all their tweets. I try to keep my Twitter-to-Linkedin updates relevant to career and business information. I doubt any of my LI connections would want to hear about the awesome steak I just ate or my opinion on the last hockey game. It's easy to filter which tweets go to Linkedin with the #in hashtag.

Its very annoying to have endless nonsense appear...this morning I have 'unconnected' a connection because I got fed up with non stop 'tweets'. If I want tweets, i'll join Twitter.
It might not have been so bad if they were vaguely work related.

I have deliberately kept my Twitter and LI accounts unlinked because I am aware that many people find it annoying. On Twitter it is normal to tweet many times a day; on LinkedIn you would not normally change your status anywhere near so often so the two are not compatible.

But, as someone else already said, the worst problem is when you see one half of people's twitter conversations. What convinced me to advise customers to avoid linking Twitter to LI was seeing so many "@clumsy_user You are so right" messages cluttering my updates page.

This is one case where Linkedin provided what should be a useful feature that becomes a nightmare for many when a few people using Twitter unwittingly think Twitter is mainly about rendering a "stream of consciousness" to the world rather than something that is for many others a very productive venue.

We should all thank the Linkedin "Tech Priests" for having the rare good sense of providing the "Hide" option, which allows us to filter out such "updates" from those that abuse Twitter with their minutiae.

Actually, using the "Hide" feature can be a viewed as a means to remove the minutiae without having to resort to the "cutting the Gordian Knot" solution of removing the Linkedin connection.

We can all hope that those that abuse Twitter will quickly learn their tweets are being blocked at Linkedin and do a serious re-think about how they use both Twitter and Linkedin.

Judging from the other posts to this question it seems clear most feel posting minutiae on Twitter that comes through to Linkedin is very counter-productive.

Good question here Martin! I haven't linked mine but my company's director has all company and personal tweets going through her account - I'll suggest she reconsiders after discovering how annoying many people find this. I agree with what's been said: incoherent @s and RTs are annoying and irrelevant on LinkedIn. I also wish there were ways to separate Twitter feeds on Twitter itself, as after a short conversation with someone you can push important tweets done the page and look like you only talk rubbish! Different columns would be nice.

I do not see too much value in it for me. I have also noted that many others think it is annoying. The whole Twitter thing reminds me of the .com bust in 1999/2000. I do not think this trend will last much longer. Linkedin is a whole different story as there are many legitimate benefits that are long lasting. Linkedin also has a multipronged approach where Twitter seems to be a one trick pony.

However, I am targeting the professionals on the Internet. If I was targeting another group like teenagers maybe it would be ideal. I can't dismiss something that I haven't fully investigated yet.

There's is no need to disconnect with people who send their tweets as LinkedIn updates. All you have to do is hide them from your network updates on your homepage: Move your mouse on the right of the unwanted update and click "hide". No more tweets bothering you on LinkedIn.

It is important to remember that each of the social media has its own unique purpose. If you use them all interchangeably you lessen the impact of your messaging. FourSquare, Triout and Gowalla are great for supporting local businesses and catching up with friends around town. Twitter can be a combination of personal messaging and tracking thought leaders. In my opinion, LinkedIn status updates should focus on specific messaging related to your business messages.

It sometimes strikes me as odd that people must not be checking their LinkedIn home page to realize the inappropriate remarks they have left on their pages.

I am a Twitter fan and have learned a lot using Twitter. I believe it's important to recognize that Twitter and LinkedIn are very different cultures. Although I occasionally use the #in tag to send selected Tweets to LinkedIn, I'm more likely to use it in the opposite direction: send my LinkedIn status updates to Twitter.

If there are people you want to follow on LinkedIn but don't have the opportunity or connections to Link with them, you can sometimes get their Twitter ID on their profile and follow them on Twitter for some time. That might provide info to connect with them later on LinkedIn. (Just don't look like a stalker.)

I do not have Twitter and LinkedIn connected. I am a user of both media, but they serve different purposes. I recently connected on LinkedIn with a couple people that had hundreds of daily Tweets connected. Almost all of the profile updates were comings from these two users. I found a handy solution. You can Hide their profile updates. The Hide feature is in in the right hand corner of each profile update.

Wow, I thought I was in the minority on this one, but I really dislike it as well. If I want to read your tweets I'll go looking for them. What I have come to realize is that there are not many that I should go looking for.

I won't say it degrades the purpose I have for LinkedIn, but I can say it has somewhat degraded my opinion of some of my connections. :) So, in that, it serves a purpose.

Personally, I would have never asked for this service and if it was disconnected I'd be more appreciative than disappointed.

To me, the practice of multi-publishing updates seems to miss the point of why people use different services differently. While your LinkedIn contacts, Facebook friends and Twitter followers likely overlap, we aren't the same person in the same mindset in each system.
