You definitely do have two accounts, one with 20 connections and the other with 43 connections. However, they cannot have the same email address. Once an email address is registered with an account, it cannot be used to open another.

You created two accounts either by attempting to change your email address at the login screen or by accepting an invitation from someone sent to an email address that was not registered with your first account.

You cannot merge two accounts. You need to have one account closed and then add your email addresses and re-invite your connections to the remaining account.

First, log in to the account you want to close and export your current connections from that account.

Second, go to the Accounts & Settings link at the top, select Close Your Account and follow the instructions from there.

Third, import the connections to the account you are keeping open. To do so, click on the Add Connections button. Click on the link “Don’t use Webmail” and then upload the contacts file you just created. The contacts will be added to your “Imported Contacts” list. Now you can re-invite them to connect with you. You should add a note to explain why you need to re-connect, or they may think it is a duplicate request.

Last, once the account is closed, click on “Accounts & Settings” and then on “Email Addresses” and add the email address(es) associated with the old account to your remaining account. You can also change the primary address associated with this account. It’s a good idea to add all your email addresses (even those you use rarely) to your account. You will avoid accidentally creating a second account again, and you will enable people to find you more easily who don’t know your current address.

Lauren:
Unfortunatley you can't consolidate 2 accounts, you need to choose the one that you want to keep I would suggest the one with the higher number of connections and then transfer everything to it
You can ask the people that re-connect explaining to them what happened and personalize your invitation to connect with them
You can either delete the account to be deleted through the account settings in LI or you can ask customer service to do it for you
Hope this helps

You can't merge accounts.
To delete one of them:

1. Log on to the account you want to close
2. Click the "Account & Settings" link
3. Click on the "Close Your Account" link
4. Select the reason why you want to close this account
5. Click on the "Continue" link
