Have you heard this Podcast? 'Using LinkedIn as a Business Tool.' It features an interview with Stan Relihan, 'Australia ' s most Connected Recruiter', and the 4th most-connected LinkedIn user in the Southern Hemisphere.

There is a really interesting Interview on the Podcast Network about using LinkedIn as a Business Tool.

The reason I'm highlighting this is because about 9 months ago, I gave Stan a copy of Malcolm Gladwell 's book, 'The Tipping Point', which inspired Stan (who had 157 connections at the time) to start building his network to the size it is today. (Over 5,100 direct connections). You can visit my profile & see the Recommendation Stan has written for me as a result.

For anyone who wants to make the most of their network, it ' s worth investing the time to learn how LinkedIn has delivered value at many levels in Stan's life - so you can apply the learnings to your own experience.

Yes I have heard it and I have been sending it to some of my friends that couldnt grasp what linkedin is about it and how it works.
I agree with Noel, if someone is objecting or skeptical about linkedin it is would be a good idea forwarding them the link of the interview that Sheilah has included or http://tinyurl.com/2k4h5k

Stan would be one of the best linkedin contacts to connect with if you are keen to expand your network, his profile is http://linkedin.com/in/stanrelihan .You may also take a peak at the Stan's Answers in the Q&A section of his profile.

Stan has also recently become one of the moderators in the LinkedinAustralia yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LinkedinAustralia/

This group would be a good oportunity to get introduced to other Linkedin members that are in Australia or would like to work or do business in Australia. In this group also you can find other Linkedin issues, questions and answers discussed.

Finaly although I dont have as many contacts in my network as Stan (yet) but i do have +1,200 level one contacts and +4,250,000 in total.

Feel free to ask me or Stan if you have any Linkedin related questions.
Feel free to also view my profile and send me an invitation.

Hi Todd,

Yes I did listen to this Pod Cast with Stan and Cameron. This is an excellent interview and quite timely.

I think all members of LinkedIn would enjoy hearing this so I am adding a clickable link below to ease their way.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and thanks to Stan and Cameron as well. I look forward to all future interviews.

Sheilah

Todd,

I to listened and learned and I have also had some very interesting contacts from Silicon Valley since I took the time to expand the profile. I was contacted by a recruiter who had a very senior role for the PAAC region. He would not have found me unless I had taken the time to elucidate on aspects of my past working life. The tool has also been very useful for maintaing contact with colleagues who I lost contact with for some time due to moving on, changing email addresses etc. Yep its a great tool and am only realising it now. Thankyou to Stan for getting it back into the discussion.

Yes, Todd, I did listen to the Podcast.

As mentioned by Sheila, Stan gave away a GREAT interview, summarizing all the advantages of Linked In and managed to overcome some very important objections (way to go, "mate").

If you have some difficulties to convince someone to connect or use Linked In, refer them to the Podcast and I am sure they will accept your invititation.

I heard the PodCast and thought that Stan makes a good ambassador for LinkedIn. I have been using this great tool for almost 2 years and it has helped me extend my network of contacts in Australia and overseas. I'm not as advanced as Stan with 5000+ contacts, but I'm getting close with 2000+ on my network. I've just scratched the surface on the potential of LinkedIn and I'm looking forward to hearing how other have benefit from this tool.

Yes, it's an excellent outline of teh benefits of linkedin. I particularly like the explanation of referrals. It does seem a number of people are uncomfortable about using this or passing them on but as long as the request is legitimate at a cursory level, there's no problem passing it on. I know I like to make judgements about referral requests sent to me for myself.

I did listen to this podcast and was very impressed with it, I do agree linkedin is everything stated by Stan. I also apload Stan for his proffessional approach and the way he dealt with certain questions. Stan seemingly described the right way to use such an effective business tool.

Since doing the Podcast, I've received a number of responses from people that had heard it, looking for more details - so for those that are interested, here it is:

In the interview, I mentioned a LinkedIn Question I'd read recently that I'd thought was a good example of using LinkedIn effectively as a Business Tool.

The Question was from someone who was looking for $3M venture capital for a business acquisition a friend of his was doing.

I was surprised by the usefulness of the answers this Question had received - check it out:

http://www.linkedin.com/answers/finance-accounting/mergers-acquisitions/FIN_MNA/30612-7322675

At the end of the interview, Cameron (the host) set me a challenge to find some great guests for the show, using the LinkedIn network.

Previous guests (found without my help!) include Noam Chomsky & Ray Kurzweil - so it'll be interesting to see how well I do & a great test for LinkedIn.
