Can Plaxo Sync Contacts with Google ?

Hello,
I recently paid plaxo to help keep my contacts and calendar in sync since their literature claimed they would work with gmail (and gmail syncs with my iphone) and outlook. "Bingo" I thought that I had a solution. But, after paying for and setting up Plaxo, I found that only the calendar is syncing as expected and not the contacts. So, I contacted plaxo and they claim that it is a temporary problem and that they will have it fixed soon. So, now I now my contacts will sync between Outlook and Plaxo (which is to say between Outlook and nothing of value to me) but not with Google and my iphone (which is 99% of the value I want).

So, here are my questions:
1) has plaxo ever really worked with google for contacts? (or, is this just vaporware)
2) does anyone know if google is moving to prohibit plaxo (and perhaps others) from being able to sync their contacts in some devious plot to make people buy Google's new Google App Sync service (which I would happily buy it it worked for consumer accounts instead of business accounts)?

I am trying to determine if I should wait a bit for plaxo to get the service working "again" or if it is just a waste of time and money and I should go find some other solution for synching calendar and contacts between Outlook and Gmail.

Many Thanks in Advance,
Mike Allen

1. Yes, plaxo works with google for contacts/addresses.
2. Google is most likely not going to start killing off other companies in a MS type move (unless it's MS).

Here are the directions for syncing the two:

Google’s Google Mail allows you to maintain an address book and a calendar in your Google Mail email account. You can synchronize those folders of information to your Plaxo account by following these steps:

1. Access your Plaxo Online account at http://www.plaxo.com/po3
2. In the Sync Dashboard, click the link “Add sync points” to see the Sync Wizard window.
3. Select the Google endpoint and click "Next".
4. Enter a your Google username and password (click "Next" to continue).
5. Select how to map your Plaxo folders with the Google folders.
6. Click “Next”
7. Click “Done” to finish the wizard.
