Anyone know about AVG PC Tune-up?
I am considering buying AVG PC Tune-up and wanted to see if anyone had any opinions about the product. I found a review on it here http://www.softwarecrew.com/2010/10/review-avg-pc-tuneup-2011/ but, wanted to see what my peers thought also.

David,
Don't waste your money.
If you are talking about a Personal Computer (or are in a Company with LESS then 10 Desktops), then the better route is to just keep things clean.
The Best Desk in PC Anti-malware are probably within your budget, and are FREE (can you afford that)?
For Anti-Virus, I've had GREAT results with Microsoft Security Essentials. It works in 32 Bit XP (and if your using 64 bit, then you have issues anyway) and both 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista and 7. Uninstall whatever stuff you have on, and reinstall with Systems Essentials. It works, it doesn't get in the way, and it's FREE (what else could you want).
For ROUTINE Anti-Malware, the Solution is MalwareBytes. Download the FREE Version, install it, update it and RUN it. Then update and run about once a week (or when you think you just went somewhere wrong).
Besides that, just keep patching the system and DO NOT allow ANYTHING else on your system. Windows runs WELL by itself, you do NOT need to add any CRAP to it to slow it down.
Best of Luck.
Dan

We have had a few customers who have had really good experiences with it.
It's not free like MS security essentials but it's not expensive either (for 3 users) and it does really seem to help a lot with users that are constantly updating and adding programs/hardware.

I'd like to second what Dan said. Microsoft Security Essentials is actually pretty good, and it is totally free. Another is Malwarebytes anti-Malware, and it is free as well. I highly recommend these two products.

AVG has had some problems recently such as AVG AV updates crashing Windows 7 64-bit systems, so I would advise caution. You never really know what they are going to "tune-up".
If you plan to use it on a single system then do a system backup prior to using in case something goes wrong.
If you are planning to use AVG PC Tune-up on multiple systems, test it out on one or two systems, and observe the results/effects before implementing throughout your network.
Personally I am not too keen on "tune-up" or "fix-it" apps. I prefer to do the work myself because then I know what is being done to my system.

avg has a free product that works well you an also use malware bytes both are free. Actually if you buy a MAC you dont have to deal with that garbage.

Just to chime in to add little something to what others have said :)
(MSE can be used in companies which have up to 10 workstations, anything more and you are breaking license agreements. MalwareBytes' is free for HOME use only, corporate users must pay for license. It would be unethical to NOT support small company like that by abusing their free product at work.)
What comes to main question, I have found CCleaner to be one of the 'best' tools when needing registry and file cleaner. It is completely free and relatively safe to use, as long as you check the list of cleanable items before proceeding :)

Clarification added March 13, 2011:
The tune-up abilities of CCleaner does not include defragmentation, that can be done by OS tool itself. What comes to AVG's advice regarding Windows Services, they are usually best left alone if everything works. Modern computers have more than enough power to run everything necessary.
Clarification added March 13, 2011:
I should clarify that I am not really opposing AVG's product, just offering a free (also free for corporate use) alternative that could be tested before trying commercial solutions.

I tried it and passed, David.
I have purchased several simialr programs over the years and never had one deliver as promised. I have a Sony Vaio Desktop and went to "Omnitech Support" recommended by Sony and their service has been outstanding. I paid for an annual subscription and the come online and optimize it once a month. Plus they put a help icon on my desktop if something goes wrong in between optimizations all I have to do is click on the help icon and I have live support. I believe they offer a one time optimization for $34.95. Even that would be better than purchasing these other programs.

Use on both Vista Business & XP Pro. Chose it because we use AVG Anti Virus. Recommend Both!
