Lightweight Document Managment Software

I am looking for a light weight document managment system that I can use for my home files. At work I use portals like Sharpoint and others to store and manage my files but would prefer something a little less intensive for my home that I can turn over to my wife to manage our scanned files.

The primary requirement is the ability to tag and comment on attached file, easy to use and manage, it cannot require a server interface since it will be hosted on my NAS.

Thanks in advance!

For home use, I've been pretty satisfied with Nuance Paperport.

I'd take a look at Subversion (http://subversion.tigris.org). Although it's typically used for software version control, its commit and comment functionality would probably do what you want. The TortoiseSVN (http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org) Windows shell extension makes tagging files as simple as a right-click.

Subversion can operate with or without a server process, so it would be easy to host a repository on your NAS.

My first choice for you will be Docman. I have been using it for a long time. It has all features that you have listed above. At the same time its free also which means this is the best option for home purpose.

You can also try iQuickdoc which is a compact, lightweight and efficient document management software.
