I recommend that companies use their corporate website for commerce, community and content; Facebook for interactions (Likes + Comments + Shares); and LinkedIn for large sales. Facebook should be layered onto your website through Wall Posts. ChristiaNet makes 100% of its sales using the above strategy and all successful businesses should follow the advice.
It's the integration that makes it work properly. That is the KEY ingredient most companies are missing. View the following example of 830,000 Facebook Fans layered onto a corporate website:

Share them on free article posting sites. Offer them to others (e.g., trainers, educators) who might in turn be willing to offer them to individuals in their respective audiences. Make them available to business partners and/or affiliate for distribution among their internal networks. Promote their availability via non-Internet based media you might use in the course of doing business (e.g., voicemail, business card, any print collateral).

I invest time in commenting on other blogs to build relationships with other bloggers and their individual communities. One of the best articles I've read on building a blog audience is by Denise Wakeman: 19 Tips for Driving Traffic to Your Blog (from Social Media Examiner).
Another great Social Media Examiner article from Denise Wakeman is "The Secret to Growing Your Blog Following." This article focuses on different blogger outreach tactics to help you effectively grow your blog audience
Both articles are attached here for your reference.

Stumble Upon is another social method to use because people with a genuine interest in your certain area come across your blog.

The very best way to promote your blog articles is to build relationships with other bloggers. Those relationships are 90% of the key to successful blogging. Those relationships should lead to links from other blogs to your blog post and/or pages on your website. Those "back links" can help boost your page rank.
Here's my suggestions:
1. Cite newspaper articles, journalists' blog articles, and the blog posts of other bloggers on your topic. Link your post to their article. Send them an email and/or leave a comment on their blog post letting them know.
2. Leave substantive comments and ask questions on other bloggers' posts.
3. Make contact and build relationships with other bloggers/journalists via those comments/links as well as e-mail and social media.
4. Avoid submitting your blog posts to online distributors such as eZineArticles.com. While eZine and many others are very reputable, submitting your posts for publication there will be placing duplicate content on the web, which will hurt you in the long run.
5. Last, but certainly not least, make sure your blog articles and meta tags (including photos) are search engine optimized for your keywords.

Think of the question in a different way. You're standing in a home supply store and you have a wall to paint. You're looking at hammers and screwdrivers and saws, and can't find the right tool.
Stop looking for the tool - think about the *task*.
You most likey want do one of these:
1) People who know about the topic to learn about this article
2) People who know nothing about the topic to learn about the article
You might think you want both, but chances are, you don't really. It's hard to write for one audience, much less two. So, first pick the task you want to accomplish.
Then, find where the people most likely to be that audience are. Tell them, there.
Using Hot New Social Platform du jour randomly will not help if the people you're looking for are not there.
First, Find Your Audience, then Engage them. Reward them for being yout advocates.
Otherwise, you're trying to paint a wall with a screwdriver.

I would say commenting on other blogs, putting your URL in signatures (in emails and forums, etc) and guest posting.
And totally agree with everything Erica says :)

Maybe you can try introducing your blog articles on related forums. Remember to read the forum rules first or you are easy to be caught as spammer and even get banned from the forum permanently. Carefully done forum activities can be very effective for increasing your blog traffic.
BTW, as you have mentioned email marketing, professional email marketing software and tutorials may be of your help. You can check them out on Comm100's website(link below). Hope you enjoy it.
