There are a few different ways you can do it, but I'm partial to Twistory. You can sync it to your calendar and actually see what tweets you sent out on a given day.

If it is yours you just click on @yourname and it will display all your tweets
IF it is someone else just clock on their names and it show you their profile with all their tweets
If you are looking for a certain subject just use the searcg or the # button

There are a variety of tools that can help you back up, archive, and search your tweets. It all depends on your preference. See the blog post I've referenced below for some suggestions of tools to get you started.
