What blog would you recommend as a source for one who wants to start blogging?

A blog for bloggers if you will.

Clarification added March 28, 2007:

A little more since maybe I was not very clear - a blog as a source to continuously learn more about blogging, design, widgets etc etc.

For blogging itself, rather than any of the surrounding technical details, I would recommend Copyblogger. For general marketing (ie. self promotion) ideas I like Seth Godin's blog and, if Kathy Sierra can come back after the recent horrible events, the Creating Passionate Users blog also touches on areas which can be applied to blogging (just think of it as 'Creating Passionate Readers'.

"The blogging blog" would be a good resource, though it is a bit out of date.

Blogger (http://www.blogger.com) or any of the other blogging sites (typepad, movable type, live journal, even mySpace) should be able to get you started on blogging.

Bokardo is hands down my favorite blog for social media, and he has a few great posts for would-be bloggers. Two links to it below.

If you're looking for traffic and exposure (your next big step), I'd check out articles on seomoz.org and google the heck out of linkbaiting.

If you're looking for ways to make money, I'd check out ProBlogger.net.

Lots of links below (oh-- I can only add three).

I second ProBlogger - he's all about information about bloggers. I would also recommend signing up for MyBlogLog - good connection point with other bloggers.

It depends on what you want to do. Personally, I find Blogger to be deplorable from a reader's standpoint. The templates are relatively inflexible, and I can say from experience that blogspot.com URLs are often glossed over by readers, as it's a URL that is used by amateurs and fly-by-night bloggers who start a blog and quit a few days later.

I've used Wordpress and Moveable Type, and of the two, find Wordpress so much easier to use.

www.kerflop.com is actually doing a series on blogging right know. She's a personal blogger, but some of her advice is universal.

I'd also suggest problogger.net although it's mostly focused on making money, more than site design

I really like dailyblogtips.com for a short burst of information every day.

If you go with a self hosted wordpress site, www.easywordpress.com has some ideas, but it's heavy on the themes which can get annoying once you've picked yours.

IHelpYouBlog.com has all the key words that you seem to need in his URL. :) He mostly has ideas for content which is a nice addition to the above.

Hi Mrinal,

Good question. There are two kinds of resources you may want to leverage.

1. On blogging, widgets, design, etc...

* on blogging for beginners - http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/02/14/blogging-for-beginners-2/.
* on corporate blogging - Debbie Weil's The Corporate Blogging Book: http://www.blogwriteforceos.com/.
* on design (not just blogging related) - http://www.presentationzen.com/.

2. On your area of expertise

Since I'm focused on customer evangelism and community marketing, when I started blogging my initial favorites were

* Guy Kawasaki's blog
* Church of the customer
* Tara Hunt's blog

I'm sure you'll find blogs on your areas of interest that'll give you some insight into how thought leaders blog.

Also, I'd strongly recommend Google Reader as a feed reader (if you haven't picked that already).

Hope this helps.
Mario

You should definitely check out Future of Communities. It's an aggregation of bloggers talking only about communities, and since they're bloggers, they give a lot of advice on blogging. In addition, they link to a lot of great bloggers offering advice on the subject.

While not specific to blogging, I would very much recommend picking up a book called The Cluetrain Manifesto. Many internet folks, including bloggers, definitely latched onto some of the ideas in the book.

I would also recommend reviewing the Technorati Top 100 list so you can see what the "a-listers" are doing.
