I basically use twitter to keep in touch with my friends. I use twitterific on my iPhone, which is handy and fun. No one from my job uses twitter, so for me it's mainly just for fun.

Hi Andrew,

Yes, I twitter - with multiple accounts for both: personal and business use.

Twitter is one of many other new social media/social networking channels that is delivering great results if used in combination with other channels, such as LinkedIn, Digg, Facebook, etc...

I recently did a talk on use of new and traditional marketing channels to grow your business and received great reviews from attendees who represented variety of different companies from IBM to technology start-ups, non-profits, etc..
http://itexec.meetup.com/32/calendar/8316442/

I decided to make e-version of this talk available to anyone who contributes at least $10 USD to Fight with Alzheimer's Memory Walk:
https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=262216&supid=227629025

And in most of the cases I access Twitter via Twhirl !

Best regards,
Tatyana

I use the same twitter account for both personal and business use as I am a firm believer in creating one human identity for yourself. A huge part of social media marketing is putting a face to a company or service.... making it real.

That said, I have chosen to connect to 3 types of individuals. People within my industry, people who might appreciate my services, or people that live near me.

I usually post directly though twitter via Twhirl however I use ping.fm to make mention of my blog posts. Other topics can very from anything like sports to food I am currently enjoying. My favorite use of Twitter is interacting with other people within my industry and sharing thoughts, ideas or strategies.

Definitely, I personally use twitter account - http://twitter.com/bilaljaffery as a personal and business social media tool. I try to combine both personal and business uses to create the human connection as opposed to just spaming my followers with just the IT news!

It allows me to promote IBM Lotus Foundations to targeted Lotus and SMB guys and a venue for me to learn more about other technologies and whats hot in the Web world.

I have connected with many like minded individuals on twitter as well. So, its a great networking tool on top.

I have two Twitter accounts; one "personal" and one for my business interaction with customers. As I am not an iphone fanboy I use Twibble on my N95. I used to just get direct SMS pdates to my phone by unfortunatly Twitter has disabled this.
I also us twitter for customer services by direct interaction with customers as well as for a backchannel during conferences (displayed on a large screen or directly).
Personally I prefer the more structured approach to conversation of Jaiku but it seems that I am in the minority in this.
Feel free to conenct with me on Twitter: www.twitter.com/evertb

I use Twitter, using Twitux. My twits are automatically routed to my Linkedin status text.
I've noticed that people use Twitter in different ways. Dutch people I know use it as a chat tool, while Americans in my network use it as a microblog tool. I prefer the latter, because there's other tools for chatting, I use MSN and Skype for that.

Hi Andrew,

I use TwitterFox since it resides on my browser and so is always in front of me - I use it to keep folks aware of new posts to my blog http://improvemybusinessnow.com as well as notify of my travel plans so I can meet new friends or garner new business.

Was also key in letting loved ones know that I was OK when the latest earthquake struck LA and I was there on business - phones were down in LA but not internet, so dm'd a friend to call my hubby to let him know I was safe.

I use it for business and personal reasons, such as for socializing with friends and also for networking with business associates. There's a lot of value in having a consolidated service through which I can plan both happy hour and a business meeting. In addition to networking, Twitter is effective with asking questions and getting quick responses (similar to here on linkedin), or for driving traffic to my blog by promoting when there is a new post. I access Twitter through Witty, directly through the web when not at my primary computer, and through Twitterific on my iPhone.

I have a presence on many of the social networks, such a Pownce, Jaiku, and Identi.ca, but I rely on Twitter. I can't live without it.

Yes, I do use twitter and several other services, inlcuding Plurk, delicious, Seesmic, and identi.ca.

I use Twhirl whenever I can, supports the last two services, as well as Twitter. There are mobile versions for some of these sites, too.

I also use FriendFeed through Twhirl and the FF web site. FriendFeed aggregates and summarizes activity on 41 different social networking services.

I'm listed as billso on these services.

I do academic research on social media, so some of my activity supports my writing. I ask questions, post links, and try to follow the interesting threads.

But I also made many professional and personal contacts on these services. Again, I post links and try to interact with folks.

My main objectives are to find new trends, learn new ways to apply social media to everyday life, and to expand my networks. We aren't completely isolated in Hawaii, but our time zone presents some interesting challenges.

I used to use Twitter on occasion just because it was something new to learn about. Now that I can email blog entries, I find I don't have much use for Twitter, since now it's just as easy to give updates or thoughts published in a different medium.

I've used Twitter for a number of months now, and have had quite a bit of success with it from a business perspective.

I use Twhirl, and leave it running on my desktop during my workday. I comment several times per day, depending on my work load. I also have each of my blog posts automatically entered into my Twitter account.

I've made a lot of connections. I'm now part of a local blogger group, and have connected with all of members on Twitter. We use it to annouce new meetings, and I've developed a lot of friendships by using it.

I also tweet about what I'm doing during the day. I've had people connect with me asking about my services, and have used it to promote several teleclasses.

I use twitter to promote my blog, keep in touch, grumble about development issues and successes, talk about the location of happy hour or events, where I'm at.

I've got it integrated with brightkite, it updates when my blog (http://ikeif.net) updates.

I used to use twhirl, but moved to tweetdeck since I can make groups that I follow instead of filtering throught the noise.

I use Twitter for both personal and professional reasons. Personally, I "follow" a few friends. We're too busy to keep up with each other at times, and Twitter is a great way to just say "Here's what I'm doing right now..."

Professionally, I decided to sign up for Twitter and use it as a means of promoting my blog, ".51 - Geekspace for Women" (http://www.dotfiveone.com). For that reason, I also enabled Twitterfeed, which updates via "tweets" to Twitter whenever I add a new post. Conversely, all my Twitter tweets are posted to a section of my website. This way, each platform can send traffic to the other.

I use Twitter to follow folks who (a) have blogs I want to keep an eye on so that I can duplicate their success if possible, and (b) may be able to help me increase my traffic in some way. It's not as cutthroat as it may sound - I enjoy seeing what they're doing and how they're pursuing their professional interests.

I access Twitter via browser only, although I recently enabled mobile notifications during OSCON. The Open Source Convention's main sponsor, O'Reilly Publications, ran a number of promotions during the convention via Twitter and tweets. Post-convention, I find that I don't want to receive mobile notification for everything, so I've reserved that function for specific folks, but it's occasionally handy.

Twitter is the one of the only social media apps that I use with regularity. It's simple, and allows me to keep up with folks quickly, and easily.
