Can you recommend any time & billing software programs for independent consultants?

I need a very small and inexpensive program, only 2 user licenses, for managing billable and non-billable time, invoicing and A/R.

We use FunctionFox. It's affordable, customizable to your business and offers excellent reporting tools.

The only downside is that it doesn't integrate directly with major account software (e.g. QuickBooks), but there are workarounds. I highly recommend it for professional service firms.

I like QuickBooks. You can buy for less then $200 and it's very friendly to use. I found out the a lot small companies use it.

I would recommend Quickbooks Online (oe.quickbooks.com) as the most effiecient application to get your pro services firm up and running. Particularly in an early stage venture when accessibility is key. Time tracking and subsequent invoicing is as easy as logging into the web site and following the built in workflow. While the upfront capital expense is minimal at 30-50 USD per month, zero hardware or need for a back up. It does become less attractive after the first 12-18 months, compared to an off the shelf program.

Hello Rebecca,

I can highly recommend Actitime. It's simple and at the same time has everything you need for effective time collection and invoicing. This time traking tool is absolutely free of cost but with good online support.

Best regards,
Anastasia

Hello Rebecca,

If you go with QuickBooks, I would suggest taking a look at InLattice.Net (http://www.inlattice.net) for invocing and A/R support.

Consultants can send their invoices (along with any attachments) through the Web. It integrates neatly with QuickBooks by allowing you to post the Invoices directly from the Web!

Cheers
Kannan
