Feedback on new site http://www.peopleperhour.com
We have recently launched our site http://www.peopleperhour.com and would be very interested to see if first time visitors can easily understand what the site is about.
I'm sure you can appreciate that we have seen our site so many times ourselves, that it's impossible to have an objective take on it :)
Any feedback and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Great service will compete well with the limited feild of similar services. Good job of using the simple graphical explaination of the process from post to completion, unfortunatly its not the first thing I see on the front page. Consider using some means of detecting new vs. returning visitors. New visitors need the What, Why and How answere immediatly. Returning visitors should be able to get right to work.
Second observation is the overall look and feel of the site is very very square and professional, almost boring. Where is that web 2.0, rounded corners feel that is ravaging the internet right now. It is tried tested and true, but yet you have seemingly ignored it. If I didn't click a few times to see your service and feature offerings, I would have been inclined to skip to the next site in my search. First impressions do matter.

I like it.
It has the interface which is common to these sorts of sites and you can get to what you want.
My only criticism is the list of "People who can do them". It looks a lot like a MySpace "friends" list that I don't really like or think should be on a professional web site.
I really like the PayPal feature.
Overall, good job! I plan on registering when I get home.
It's alrigth, there are many things on the front page, of course I'm not a web savvy to look at the detail but what I wish was bold and big is the services you offer especially the FREE part. overall, it's pro like and not much different from the bunch which may be a good thing, you dont want it to look like a "my space" type
good luck!
ps. I'M COMING BACK TO SIGNUP AND SEE WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER.
I think the concept is good and will provide a good outlet for freelance service providers to find filler project work... A couple of points if I may:
1.) When you seach the projects and look at a project on page 3, then click on the back to browse projects, it always goes back to page 1 and not back to the page the user was searching from. Once you have a lot of projects listed this will become very cumbersome for a user, this holds true for open projects or recently awarded projects.
2.) When on the find projects tab at the top the sub tabs below that line directs the user out of the tab they were in and directs them to the home tab. The browser back button does bring the user back to the page they were on, but the previous link does not redirect them back to the correct tab on the top.
3.) When registering to become a providor, the user must click on the link to accept the T&C, but if they do not check it, and they fill in the source of how they heard of the service as other, and then fill in the other field and select enter then the error message tells the user that they must read and accept the t&c, but the data entered of the referer is not stored and then is a second error for the user to correct.
4.) I know this is a non US based program but if it is going to be used in the US then the ref to $ and having the correct amounts in USD is very important to get correct as US folks typically do not translate money very well... Also some of the discriptive language could be americanized for use in the states.
5.) I noticed on the search that you are searching for exact word, and that search is also loking in the past messages they have sent, type in "Mike" and you will find 8 people, several that are not named Mike. It appears that there is not wildcards being used, so if you type in "Mik" you can not find anyone named Mike, not much of a problem with Mike but could be with "Barb" for Barbara...
6.) I would allow the user to define the number of results on a page when searching.
7.) From a provider perspective, you may want to consider giving the provider the option to opt out of the view if their plate is full.
8.) I noticed that many of the providers do not have any rating which is displayed as N/A, but I think a blank with a 0 ratings would also do the trick here. Why display how much they have been paid???
9.) When searching I would also make the number of bids field a sort by ascending and descending by click.
10.) how about a recently completed tab???
11.) If you are in the recently awaded bids, the option is to link to browse for projects, which take the user back to the projects to be bid... similar problem of focus as the first 2 focus issues.
